Heading :E-Conference on Rural Finance Research
Date : 2007-05-11
Kind : Conference
Description :

Dear Colleagues,

FAO is pleased to announce that they will be hosting an e-conference on "Moving Research Results into Policies and Practice in Rural Finance" from 16-28 May 2007.  It builds from the international conference on this subject, which took place in Rome during March, and opens the dialogue to the wider global audience and its reflections.  The aim of the e-conference is to take those findings closer to recommendations and practical strategies that will improve the communication between researchers, practitioners and policy makers.

The e-conference will be structured around the following five questions:

1. How can researchers and the results of their work best influence government policy-making?

2. How can practitioners and researchers work more closely together to identify and analyze problems?

3. How can research quality be assured and in what format should research findings be disseminated to ensure they are used?

4. How should donors and research funding agencies prioritize and decide which research topics to support?

5. What topics would you prioritize for funding today?

Contributors will be asked to focus on each of these topics in turn for approximately 2-3 days and summaries of the main comments and ideas will be posted shortly after this.  The e-conference has been set up using Google groups and participants will be able to choose whether to receive new postings by email or read them on the web in the discussion site or the Rural Finance Learning Centre.  Contributors will be welcome to post their contributions in English, French or Spanish and summaries will be translated into each of these languages.

To take part in this discussion you will need to register as a member of the discussion group. Please go to http://groups.google.com/group/ruralfinance
<http://groups.google.com/group/ruralfinance>  and follow the instructions on the home page.  Silent observers will be welcome but we would greatly value hearing from as many of you as possible and hope that you will find time to share your thoughts with fellow contributors.
