www.accion.org/hbs
2008 Course Focus:
Given the increased interest of commercial banks and other financial institutions in reaching the base of the pyramid, the 2008 course will begin with an intensive immersion into the microfinance industry and the operations of leading microfinance institutions, provided by HBS Faculty and experienced ACCION International practitioners.  It will then address fundamental challenges of doing business at the base of the financial sector, including: succeeding in highly competitive financial sectors;
maintaining a social focus in a commercial setting reaching new business segments;
evolving products and delivery channels

Participants will learn primarily through the case method approach, pioneered by HBS. Through guided case discussions, participants will identify practical business lessons from the experience of leading institutions and apply them to their own situations and organizations. Decision makers from the case studies will join participants in the classroom - on site or via video link - to engage in a live dialogue and explore the key concepts.
Who Should Attend?
Executives of all financial institutions engaged in expanding finance to underserved clients around the world - from microfinance clients to commercial banks.
Space limited to 60 participants. Applications will be available online by February 1, 2008.
